Sandra Štefaniková is an EJO’s Czech web editor and a PhD candidate of media studies at Charles University in Prague. She received her Bachelor’s degree in History of Art and Journalism from Palacky University in Olomouc (2007) and her Master’s degree in Journalism from Charles University in Prague (2012). She has studied and done academic research in Austria (University if Vienna, 2010), Indonesia (University Seni Rupi Yogiyakarta, 2010-2011), Italy (Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, 2008), the Netherlands (University of Utrecht, 2006 – 2007), Slovakia (Comenius Uneversity, Bratisla, 2005) and the United States (Hampshire College, Amherst, 2008 – 2009). Sandra is a member of the European Communication and Research Association (ECREA). Currently, she is working on her doctorate thesis dealing with the relationship between media, culture, and political authorities in the non-democratic political systems. At the same time, she is working on research concerning the transformation of Czech photo journalism in the last twenty years. In edition to her academic career she has been working as a journalist for Czech online daily Aktualne.cz since 2011.
