Dr. Filip Láb

Filip Láb, PhD, is a lecturer at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Science, Charles University in Prague. He received both a Master‘s degree and PhD from the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). He also holds a Master´s degree in Media Studies from the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Science, Charles University in Prague. He specializes in visual culture, visual communication, photojournalism, theory and praxis of traditional and digital photography, transsition from analog to digital photography, new functions of visual materials in new media. He cooperates externally as a lecturer with New York University in Prague and is also active as a journalist and photographer in the field of fine art and commercial photography, collaborating with several cultural as well as commercial magazines. Additionally, he has co-authored two monographs on photography – „Fotografie po fotografii“ (Photography After Photograhy, with Pavel Turek, PhD, Karolinum, 2009) and Soumrak fotožurnalismu? (The End of Photojournalism, with PhDr. Alena Lábová, Karolinum, 2009) and written several chapters in textbooks. Currently he‘s cooperating with Dr. Alice Tejkalová on a project entitled “The Relationship between Journalism Studies and Media Professionals in the Czech Republic.
